I will happily watch the original an infinite amount of times because I think it's a science fiction masterpiece however recently I found out that there's an extended cut. In case you're unfamiliar, a fan-edit is exactly what it sounds like. AKA: Дюна, Duna. So the best version of the Alan Smithee edit, imo, is that 2006 widescreen version. If you're that passionate, it might be worth creating a fan-edit that restores the cut scenes but still doesn't include the garbage.
